# PitchBook for Metaview Sourcing

> Use PitchBook company data in Metaview Sourcing to check candidate employers and refine target-company lists.

The PitchBook integration is for **[Metaview Sourcing](/sourcing/overview)**. It lets the Sourcing agent check candidate employers' ownership, investors and deal history, and use that context to refine your candidate search.

[PitchBook](https://pitchbook.com/) is a company research platform covering ownership, funding and deals. Connecting your firm's account makes that data available to the Sourcing agent; it does not add PitchBook data to AI Notes, Application Review or Screening.

For example, ask in Sourcing: **"Find CFOs at PE-backed software companies and show me who backs each company."** The agent can check company ownership and investors as part of the search. You don't need to mention PitchBook in your prompt.

## Requirements

* A **PitchBook Direct Data API contract** with available API credits. A standard PitchBook platform subscription alone is not enough.
* Your firm's PitchBook API key.
* A Metaview workspace admin to connect the integration.

The connection is shared across your Metaview workspace. Individual users don't need to enter a key or sign in to PitchBook separately.

## Connect PitchBook

1. In PitchBook, go to **My PitchBook > Plugins & Apps > PitchBook API** to find your API key. If API access isn't available, contact your PitchBook account manager to confirm your contract includes it.
2. In Metaview, open **Settings > Integrations** and find PitchBook under **Data Enrichment**, or [open PitchBook settings directly](https://my.metaview.app/?settings=pitchbook).
3. Enter the key in **PitchBook API Key** and select **Test & Save**. Metaview tests the key before saving it.
4. Start a new Sourcing search and describe the company context that matters to the role.

## Use PitchBook in Sourcing

Once connected, the agent can use PitchBook when your request calls for ownership, investor, funding, deal or valuation detail. It can check candidate employers or verify a proposed target-company list before finding people at those companies.

Try asking:

* "Which of these candidates work at PE-backed companies, and who are the investors?"
* "Show the funding and deal history for these candidates' current employers."
* "Check which companies on this target list raised a Series C last year, then find engineering leaders at those companies."

The agent can use existing sources for broad company filters; connecting PitchBook doesn't mean it is used for every search. Available details depend on PitchBook's coverage and your API access.

  This integration looks up companies, not people. It does not search PitchBook's people database or screen its entire company database by financial criteria. Sourcing identifies or receives a target-company list, checks it against PitchBook, and finds candidates through its existing sources.

## PitchBook credit usage

Lookups consume **your firm's PitchBook API credits** under your PitchBook contract. These are separate from Metaview Sourcing and contact-enrichment credits.

Usage depends on the number of companies checked and the details requested. Checking ownership, investors and deal history can require multiple lookups for one company. Previously fetched data is reused within the same search to avoid duplicate requests.

  There is no fixed per-search PitchBook spending cap. For a large target list, agree a smaller starting set with the agent and request only the details you need. Check your credit allowance and charging terms with PitchBook.

## Troubleshooting

| Problem                               | What to do                                                                                                                                                           |
| ------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| The API key cannot be validated       | Check that you copied the correct key and that your PitchBook contract includes API access with available credits. Contact your PitchBook account manager if unsure. |
| PitchBook isn't available in a search | Check that the integration is connected in the correct Metaview workspace. If you connected it after starting the search, start a new search.                        |
| The key is rejected after connecting  | Reconnect with a valid key in PitchBook settings.                                                                                                                    |
| PitchBook credits are exhausted       | Contact your PitchBook account manager about your allowance. Further PitchBook lookups cannot continue until credits are available.                                  |
| A company isn't found                 | Provide the company's website and correct name. Missing PitchBook data is not evidence that the company fails your criteria.                                         |
| PitchBook is temporarily unavailable  | Try again later. If the problem persists, contact [Metaview support](mailto:support@metaview.ai) with a link to the affected search. Don't include your API key.     |

## Disconnect PitchBook

A workspace admin can open **Settings > Integrations**, select **Disconnect PitchBook**, and confirm. This stops further PitchBook lookups, including in searches already running. It does not remove information already returned in your search results.
